Sacred Images: Students Explore Christian Imagry

The Lamb

 

 

 The Lamb symbolizes Christianity and the spring renewal.  It is often associated with prity, sacrifice, renewal, redemption, innocence, gentelness, humility, and patience. 

 

 

The Cross

 

The cross symbolizes earthly life, and represents a man standing with his arms outstretched.  It is also stands as a symbols of God's love for humanity. 

 

 

The Rose

 

 

The rose is a mystic symbol of the heart, the center of the cosmis wheel and also represents sacred, romantic, and senual love.  Specifically the rose is often used to symbolize the Vigin Mary and her many apparitions. 

 

La Virgen de Guadalupe

 

 

 

 The Virgen de Guadalupe is often symbolized by the sacred rose.

  

The Heart

 

The heart is the univeral symbol of love and is also often used to represent joy and compassion.  A bleeding heart surrounded in flames is refered to in Christianity as the sacred heart and is a symbol for faith. 

 

 

The Moon

 

The moon is  a symbol for the earthly cycles of decline, death and rebirth.  It is the favored symbol of woman and often represents goddess.

 

The Pheasant

 

A high ranking bird with radiance from the sun, the pheasant, symbolizes royaly such as a Queen and/or King.
